Heal the Bay Charity Auction

Every year I donate a Family Portrait Session, a Headshot Session and a Child Portrait session to the annual Heal the Bay Bring Back the Beach Charity Dinner. It’s for a great cause (we should all care more about keeping our beaches and ocean cleaner) and the photoshoots are always fun because I get to do whatever I feel like doing since it’s free!

We usually pick my favorite beach in Malibu, Westward beach. Last year the photoshoots raised $2500.00 which I feel really good about.

If you’re looking to get involved in the community and volunteer for a few hours doing something that really helps our environment, may I suggest volunteering for a beach clean up day. You show up in Playa Del Rey, Santa Monica, or Venice Beach, they hand out trash bags and gloves and you comb the beach picking up trash. It lasts just 2-3 hours. It may sound awful, but it’s not that bad and you’re on the beach. Anyone can participate. I was AMAZED at how many full size trash bags were collected in just 3 hours time at the Santa Monica Pier. There were about 25 volunteers and we must have collected 50 bags of trash easy.

Now that I have a child and think about going to the beach when he gets old enough, I want it to be clean for him as any parent would. I can’t tell you how many needles are found washed up in the sand, glass from beer bottles and other hazzards which is just unacceptable.

It’s not like there aren’t huge trash cans right there in the sand every 25ft up the entire coast! It shocks me and you really see it first hand when you volunteer for the afternoon.
